Strike Fighter Squadron 32 (VFA-32), known as the "Fighting Swordsmen," is a U.S. Navy strike fighter squadron currently flying the F/A-18F Super Hornet, based at Naval Air Station Oceana. Their radio callsign is "Gypsy," and their tail code is "AC." In 2023, the Fighting Swordsmen were honored with the Mutha Fighter Spirit Award, presented annually at the Navy’s Strike Fighter Ball in Norfolk, VA.
The squadron’s early insignia featured the Fighting Three Felix the Cat symbol, and they were originally known as the "Crazy Cats" due to the number of pilots who had previously served with Fighting Three. At one point, they were also referred to as "White Lightning." In 1950, the squadron adopted a new insignia featuring a heraldic lion beneath gold Naval Aviation wings, with the motto "Deus et Patria," which has been retained with minor updates to the present day. The squadron's radio callsign is "Gypsy," a nickname that many alumni continue to use. The "Fighting Swordsmen" moniker was adopted after the squadron transitioned to the F-8 Crusader, incorporating a sword into the lion’s hand.
