A tribute to the legendary squadron VFA-31 "Tomcatters", the U.S. Navy strike fighter squadron based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Virginia, flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet. The squadron's origins date back to July 1935 with the commissioning of VF-1B Shooting Stars, and it has since served under various designations, including VF-6, VF-3, and VF-31, making it the second-oldest active Navy squadron. VFA-31 operates under Commander, Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN and has participated in every major conflict since its founding. Recently, the squadron returned from a deployment with the Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group, completing over 2,669 sorties, 4,153 flight hours, and 1,991 carrier arrested landings.
